Pidgintegrate (2011)Pidgintegrate is an educational, facebook-integrated arcade game built with Flash in collaboration with Chris Anderson. We created it as an entry for the 2011 Hidden Agenda competition, in which undergraduate college students were invited to create a game that teaches a high school subject. In the game, you pilot a pigeon across dangerous terrain in an effort to collect candy for a bear. There is too much fog to see the ground ahead of you, so you must use your intuition about the derivative of the terrain to predict the hills and dips. I programmed Flash, drew the graphics, and also made the sound and music. Chris also did Flash programming and also handled all of the server code and Facebook integration. The game was picked as a finalist and went on to win second place (there were eleven entries). Total development time was about two weeks, and we won enough money to make it feel worth the time. This is also the first project in which either of us used Flash, so maybe I'll use what I learned to return to Flash games some day. |
