KUOW.org

During the summer of 2006 I interned with the Web Staff at KUOW Public Radio, the Seattle branch of National Public Radio. I spent the summer working with a massive frankenstein website built of variously old and new servers all sort of linked roughly together. This was my first experience with ASP (which turned out to be fairly insubstantial) and Microsoft SQL.

For the summer of 2007 I returned as an actual employee and spent my time getting Microsoft's IIS and SQL Server to cooperate with PHP 5. I rewrote some major features of the website, including the Program Archive search function, the podcasts, and the secure pages for making pledges online. There was a fair amount of crowding around a little terminal in a room full of servers, waiting to see whether something broke. It was great!
