Roulette in GI like to call this a "timpani quartet." It involves four timpani arranged in a tight circle with some other instruments mounted in the center. Four performers-- one per timpani-- start playing together and eventually start moving around the edge of the circle together while maintaining a groove. I wrote this in the fall of 2006 over the course of a couple days. It's very much a performance piece, which is why I did not include any computer-rendered recording here: if anything, I want a video. There are a ton of stomp-esque visuals and interesting rhythms in here that would be fun to perform and see. The image on the right shows the first page of the score, so you can see my diagram of the layout of the instruments, as well as a tiny sample of the strange introduction. |
