Indago Felix (2007)

This is the result of my participation in the David Diamond Young Composers Workshop with the Seattle Symphony for my fifth and final year. I met with their composer in residence, Sam Jones, weekly for a few months to write this. It's a short (~5 minute) piece for flute, clarinet, marimba, viola and cello. The title means the Fruitful Search.

Members of the symphony performed it on April 23, 2007 at the Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall (you can listen to that recording here), and it was wonderful. The musicians amaze me ceaselessly. The detailed press release, which also contains more information about the workshop, is available on the right.

I was playing Prokofiev and Gershwin while I wrote this piece. The image here shows the ugly hammering Development section of the piece-- the rest of the piece is more contrapuntal in nature.
