LOL WTF PENIS -- From Deg

...

I've been dreading this post, almost. The one where I talk about how Lanfest is sort of dying, and life goes on. That sort of thing.
I've more or less stopped playing Halo, and I don't own a console (I don't really have a desire for one either). Right now, I'm getting hooked on RollerCoaster Tycoon and the Command & Conquer series (I found the "First Decade" DVD on the UVic Hub.. and there's so much goodness. Especially Red Alert and Red Alert II). Those games are a bit harder to make any comics about, you see..

On the other hand, I doodle quite a lot in class. A LOT in math, chem, etc..all those boring ones. I've actually come up with a few comic ideas since then, but they have nothing to do with Halo. Which also is not Lanfest's roots.. especially of LAN parties.
Perhaps I should make comics based on happenings at GGUVic's LAN parties, as at least those would have some new stuff for me to watch. Perhaps I could just be a spectator of sorts.

I don't really know where I'm going with all this, but sure, looks like there'll only be a few more "Lanfest"-related comics. Sux.

Happy holidays and merry christmas to all - life is good on the west coast.
And if anyone was wondering, I'm doing fine with the whole "throat syphilis" thing. Yes andrew. You'll catch it too now.
I'm also getting addicted to AutoCAD.. this shouldn't be happening. I want to be an engineer, not a technician, architect, or drafter. Phooey.

I added a new gallery; it's just an addition to my Slave Lake photos. Winter pictures, ho! They were all taken in fall, actually.. October to November. December to January pics will be up in a few weeks, perhaps.

Ok guys, just to clear up any confusion, I had another peritonsilar abcess drained on sunday, and then a tonsillectomy (during the same operation). I don't have any tonsils now.

Also, I might be ditching the ads on Lanfest Comics..if I do, it'll happen over christmas break. The $12.46 can go suck it, that's the money we've made from about 14 months of running ads. The site layout will be changed too.

"..like swallowing razor blades" -- From Deg

Welcome back to real life, Deg. This might be a little lengthy.
What a fun last 9 days I've had - I started getting sick around sunday, which progressively got worse through three exams until I was free to go to the horsepidal. Same stuff as last month - my tonsils abhor my good grades and try to prevent any such scholarly success in key moments. My shining examples:
  • Last June, the final week of high school and the week of review for my provincial exams - those handy pieces of paper that decide on whether you enter your university of choice, or go to Alberta. Blame infectious mononucleosis and hepatitis A.
  • Last November, the days right before reading break and all through reading break (as well as the next week and a bit of classes). Blame some bacterial infection that "got better" (possibly and most likely streptococcus.
  • The reoccurrence of that same bug, first week of exams. Perfect for courses which will fail you if you fail the final
Right. So I've got a few stories from my last stay in the hospital..

- First off, the whole concept of IV is GENIUS. It's so smart to supply fluids by saline, then pump it into the circulatory system. Seriously. And it's such an easy carrier for drugs.. I'm impressed by the system (though the pumping machines have their problems, which I'll talk about some other time. That's another story).

- Getting drugs directly injected into your IV line (instead of a slow, auto-pump) is WOW interesting. Especially morphine. I got morphine/gravol shot into me that way once because they didn't want to interrupt my antibiotic pump. I think she put in the gravol first because it burned my whole vein from my hand to my forearm. It's a slow injection, maybe 3 minutes...so that part sucked. But then came the morphine..like a coldness.. and a nice painful lapse.

- Don't overdo the morphine. Dave joked about this the first time I came back from the hospital, but it isn't that funny. See, the doctor filled out a report of what drugs I could be given, how often, in what forms, and in what quantity. The nurses then follow the rules, but allow you to prescribe yourself. In other words, they ask you if you want some morphine, or some tylenol, gravol, codeine..and they don't want to see you in pain.
So I stuck with morphine/gravol for the first while after surgery (and before too)..s'all good. The nurses continued their routine analyses, which included, "are you voiding okay?". I always answered yes..and then I found out why. See, too much morphine...cuts off..your ability..to pee. You feel your bladder being full, you push, and it doesn't work. That ain't cool. I switched to tylenol after that.

- Pediatric wards are the place to be. So very comfortable, relaxed, I had a TV, VCR, PS2, a fan, own bathroom (well kinda, shared a bathroom on my second stay but then I got a bigger room). The walls are painted nicely and the staff is all cheery and all that. Yay.

- Waking up from anasthetic was absolute hell for me. Kinda pitch-black (took me a while to open my eyes), gargling for air (I had shit in my throat that was too difficult to swallow and too mucousy to cough up, and they couldn't use suction because it wasn't in my mouth), and in a bit of agony. Although they did give me a bunch of fast-acting pain meds..I have no idea what it was.. but they stopped and said they couldn't give me any more. "More will make your heart stop, dear".

- Drugs make time go funny, kinda like alcohol (heart lake, anyone?). I've been able to stare at the clock and the seconds just seem to pass by uberfast..and sometimes not.

Blah blah blah, I'm rambling.
So all in all, I'm getting better now and going back to UVic tomorrow. I plan to write two exams in the next 6 days, which surprised the hell out of my doctor (my mother too, and the nurses, and some friends, and..huh. Maybe I shouldn't have chosen to do that..).

I'm sorry, I can't help myself.. besides, it's damn funny. And no, I'm not the source/creator of it -

TOP 10 REASONS TO DATE AND ENGINEER
10. The world does revolve around us... we choose the coordinate system.
9. No "couple" enjoy a better "moment".
8. We know how to handle stress and strain in a relationship.
7. We have significant figures.
6. We understand the motion of rigid bodies.
5. Projectile motion: Do we need to say more?
4. Engineers do it to specification.
3. According to Newton, if two bodies interact, their forces are equal and opposite.
2. We know it's not the length of the vector that counts, but how you apply the force.
1. WE KNOW THE RIGHT HAND RULE!

Tablet?! -- From Deg

Yeah, I finally used my tablet, but I'm not proud of it. $200, wut.
Maybe I'll stick with normal comic drawing style from now on.. and practice my tableting skills. Maybe in my exam-break (before mech and calc).
At least "Peekaboo" is coming up soon.

As for tomorrow..Rolling Stones, baby! Yeah.

K Guys, Whatever~ -- From Deg

I guess I'm doing fairly well for having surgery on monday.. but I guess that it's a minor operation. Just draining a couple abscesses in my tonsils, yum. I'm back at home and eating solid foods again, so I'm in happy spirits. 13 days ago I felt about the same..slightly sore throat. At least I'm getting better right now and not worse. Of course, 13 days ago I probably instigated this whole infection/shittiness of life by staying up until 4:30am at ECS..
I'll head back to UVic Thursday morning (tomorrow!), then home again (or Vancouver, I don't know the plan) shortly after Mech on Friday. Then I meet up with my family in Vancouver and enjoy some Stones action on Saturday..
Yumm, bread and cheese. Delicious.

I'm happily camping out in Nanaimo's Horsepiddle right now..my first surgery of my life, in two hours! I'm excited more than anything (shouldn't be any complications really.. although he could make a decision that would keep me here a lot longer). I should be back online tonight, or tomorrow. Home possibly in three-ish days.. +/- a lot.
Cheerio.

...fuck. -- From Deg
2006-11-14 00:03:12

Yeah, alright, my Tonsils are swollen to high hell now. Maybe...a bit over 1/2 my throat is covered by my tonsils now. I can't eat easily, although I "luckily" don't have a lot of appetite. Consequently I don't have much energy for anything.
And a correction from before - my throat is not sore! So that almost rules out strep (and therefore a bacterial infection, ie, antibiotics). Fuck viruses.

So I'm sick. Kinda like last time in June - stressed out from [mostly] homework (a little bit life too), and then I come down with something. Looks like this time I've only got a bad cold..although ibuprofein is god at making me able to eat stuff. I love advil (it's also really hard to OD on it, woo..I can take a hell of a lot more than what the bottle recommends and still be safe :P).
I'm happy that it isn't nearly as bad as last time, what with the mono, hep A, and strep.
Perhaps Julia finally succeeded in getting me sick.
